The Temprees’ Smooth Vocals Are Back!
And it’s all From The Heart – CD OUT August 12
On Point 3 Records
“Embody a stunningly, evocative vocal blend that will simply melt your heart” – Rob Bowman, Author of Soulsville U.S.A.: The Story of Stax Records
Legendary Stax Records vocal trio The Temprees, present their smooth harmonies and grooves on their new album, From The Heart, out August 12 on Point 3 Records. Produced by longtime fan and musical genius, Angelo Earl at Soulstreet Recording Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. Angelo gathered up some of the city’s best players to help create something new for the longstanding trio. The result; is a lush, groove-driven collection of songs; that cover the gamut of love and life with a little bit of fun.
Bringing their past success into the future, this trio’s sound still stands tall today with original members, Deljuan “Del” Calvin, Harold “Scotty” Scott, and new member Walter “Bo” Washington. Scotty and Deljuan have known each other since they were teens, with a career spanning about 45 years. After the passing of one of the original singers, the late member, Jasper “Jabo” Phillips in 2001, they took a break to focus on family. Now back, years later they are stronger than ever.
“Truly talented and represent the Old School with class and style. The Temprees have a sound that is identifiable and unique….Always a crowd pleaser and one of my favorite groups”- Alan Beck/President of Pacific Concert Group
The Temprees were a part of something very special at Stax Records, something that didn’t have any boundaries: human or musical. They lived within miles of the famed building located at McLemore and College, and this allowed them to be a part of community-family based group. You can hear the Memphis trio’s soul sounds weave in and out of today’s music from pop to blues to hip-hop.
From The Heart is brand new, it’s lush, fresh and smooth as silk. Producer and songwriter, Angelo Earl, a multi-talented seasoned musician himself, pulled out the vocalists’ magical sounds with a snap of his fingers. His resume is very impressive for he has played with some of the best bands and singers in the world, like Al Green, Jody Whatley, and Dr Dre.
All the songs were written by Deljuan Calvin and Angelo Earl himself except “Reasons,” a 1975 Maurice White and Phillip Bailey penned tune, that was on an Earth, Wind & Fire recording called, That’s the Way of the World. Maurice White, who passed away this spring, was a fellow Memphian and friend.
As the album opens up the trio sings a musical love letter with, “From The Heart,” that invites all their fans, young and old, to listen. A warm invitation of gratefulness and love, knowing fans can’t resist their charming harmonies, they are pulled in. Even the members express their excitement by thanking all their fans, today’s new artists, and their families who have supported them. Always suckers for love, The Temprees are really good at it; they steal the scene and set the mood.
During the tune “We Do Music”, they give a history lesson of Stax Records Studios, calling out label mates like Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, Rufus Thomas and The Bar-kays. They love the vibe that the Stax sound oozed out, and into them, for that; is what makes them continue. As the song comes to an end, they shout out to the different cities around the U.S. while chanting, “We Do Music,” bringing the country in a little closer for that group hug.
On “Keep It Real”, that’s them calling out to society; “All we have to do is care, spread the sunshine everywhere!” As we get deeper in our busy schedules, we need to remember the human connection is most important.
They dip their harmonies into some funk and dance beats to get the party started on “Paparazzi”. It’s all about having fun with dancing and singing. A song with a groove that will remind fans of The Commodores, Kool & The Gang and of course, the late Prince.
As the album closes, The Temprees wrap it up by asking the listeners on “Live Your Life,” to take it as a blessing, it’s the only one you got and follow your heart.
So come fall back in love with The Temprees, as they swoon with their smooth voices giving it all to you, the fans, straight “From The Heart”.
The group will be embarking on a tour, and personal appearances, so stay tuned!
