Their blend of rock and country with a taste of hippie warms your soul and keeps your toes tapping.
Jammy Man strikes gold with their fourth album, TUNES, filled with their signature sound of country, rock, and blues.
The band once again teamed up with producer Paul Trunko from Swallow Hill Music over at his SongTrunk Studios in Golden, Colorado. The band consists of two brothers, Tumbly Tumbler and Jammy Man (because their birthnames are so boring) on guitars and vocals, their friends Ron the Bear, who plays drums and mandolin, Sadie, who plays piano, and Rascal E. Racoon (yes, that’s the spelling), who plays bass and vocals. This 12-song set with three bonus live tracks will be released on October 31.
Jammy Man explains some of the songs on TUNES:
“The Letter”: We used to play this one with a guitar player we jammed with in the early days. He would speed it up and play it with a lot of riffing. We’ve always wanted to record a cool version that’s similar. Joe Cocker’s take is still top-notch.
“Mind”: We’re always confronted with decisions in life. Which way should you go? Inspired by a friend at the time who was at that crossroads. The riff came from our attempt to compose an instrumental. Tumbly does a great job on the fiddle. The 3rd verse comes from an interesting ride over Trail Ridge Road in Colorado.
“I Just Wanna Live”: Some good groovin’ guitar work on this one by the brothers. Rascal sings the blues. When she’s looking at you funny, you never know what’s coming.
“Memories Of Love”: Living in Colorado, where its history surrounds you. This tune is about a gold miner who is thinking about his loved one that has been left behind while he is seeking their fortune. Bear on mandolin and Tumbly doing some dobro work.
About Jammy Man: It all started in Golden City, Colorado, in 2017, with the two brothers, Jammy Man and Tumbly Tumbler (whose real names are pretty boring), who began playing guitar and writing songs at home and started playing at high school events at South Mesa High School. They played at area restaurants, like their favorite Wonderwho Grille, where they played covers and ate free burgers.
They found Sadie in a junkyard and discovered she had a keyboard grill, but her engine needed repair. They knew a guy in town who could do the job, so they got her ready to roll. While on a camping trip at Clear Gate Canyon State Park, they met Bear, an excellent drummer and no slouch on the mandolin, and discovered they shared the same taste in vinyl records, ranging from the Grateful Dead to Jonathan Edwards and bluesy stuff, such as Delbert McClinton. One more piece was needed; they heard about Rascal, a blues singing bass player. They went by his place and somehow got into all his devices and messed them up. Frustrated, he went to the window and saw the guys drive by and jumped out to follow. They all agreed to jam out in the garage, and boom! The brothers thought, ‘This is wild!’ Too good to be true… and yet it was good. Way good.
The band has released three albums: Acoustic Music (2017), Tumbly Tumbler (2019), and Is There a Flight On This Movie? (2021. All three were well-received by press and radio from Colorado, the U.S. Midwest, AND the UK, from KGNU to Bluegrass Standard magazine to Folking.com.
See, Jammy Man is not your usual band; they are hand-drawn with color and sounds… It’s like Pixar meets Almost Famous. This is the brainchild of Paul Trunko, who created them a few years ago to entertain himself and explore other ways to expand his music. He teamed up with Catcow Animation out of Portland, OR, to create videos to complement the music. The band has a website, bio, videos, and musical influences from the Grateful Dead to Johnathan Edwards to The Eagles, playing to their fans.
